Charles County Guide
Located only 18 miles
from Washington, DC, Charles County is the gateway to historic Southern
Maryland. On April 13, 1658, the governors council established Charles
County, Maryland's fifth county, named in honor of Charles
Calvert. The boundaries were not clearly established until 1695, when
the upper part of the territory became Prince George's County. From
rolling hills, to large urban areas, to quiet waterfront, Charles County has
much to offer, step inside and take a peek as the history of Charles County
tells its tale.
