Saint Mary's County Guide
In
1634, a colony began in Maryland. Known as the mother county and a
birthplace of religious fre edom, St. Mary's county started as 30 square
miles of land bought from Indians. The first reference to St. Mary's
as a county dates back to 1637. Located thirty five miles south of
Washington DC, it is mainly comprised of sand, clay and gravel, and
is surrounded by rivers and creeks. There is a large assortment of
trees such as dogwood, willow, white oak, poplar, locus, and many more. The weather here is typically hot summers with temperatures
ranging up in the low 90's, and winters that are mild with temperatures
between 30 to 40 degrees. I have been told that it used to be cold in this area and that their were many snow storms
throughout the winter season.
There is much to do in the spring and summer.
Athletics range
anywhere from softball to water skiing. Mostly though, Saint Mary's
County is know as a waterfront county with several marinas and boat ramps
scattered throughout. It is also know for its rich culture and
history. Although the county is developing at a extremely fast pace we
can't forget about the historical references. Please take time to
visit the past, you don't have to go far. You ARE living in a very
historical area. |
